PROFILE

 

Dr. Alfafara   received his B.S. Chemical Engineering degree magna cum laude, from the University of San Carlos (Cebu City, Philippines).  He obtained his Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering (major in Wastewater and Wastewater Engineering) from the Asian Institute of Technology (Bangkok, Thailand) and his PhD in Fermentation Technology from Osaka University, Japan.

His research interests include biological wastewater treatment ,  fermentation technology (optimization and  scale up of fermentation processes) and application of electrochemical processes for wastewater treatment.

As member of the Chemical Engineering Faculty at UPLB, he enjoys teaching courses related to biochemical processing (ChE 172, ChE 283, MBB 240),  and  material balances/reaction kinetics (ChE 31 and ChE 145).  He has served as adviser to students, many of whom have won awards for thesis research projects, notably, the BPI-DOST Science Awards, BPI-DOST Poject of the Year Awards, and the National Student Congress Research Project Competition of the Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers (PICHE) .
