The University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) Department of Chemical Engineering (DChE) was awarded as the second Top-Performing school in the recently conducted November 2024 Chemical Engineering Licensure Examination by the Philippine Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) with an overall passing rate of 96.55% (56 passed out of 58 takers).


The November 2024 Chemical Engineering Licensure Examination was held last November 22, 23, and 24, 2024 in various satellite testing centers administered by the PRC, which includes Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi, and Rosales in Pangasinan. The PRC has reported a national passing rate of 72.34% (688 passers out of 951 examinees). The exam was administered by the current Professional Regulatory Board (PRB) of Chemical Engineering headed by its chairman Hon. Maricris C. Vines, and members Hon. Shirlyn B. Chua-Reyes, and Hon. Cezar S. dela Cruz.
The oath taking ceremony of the Chemical Engineering Licensure Examination passers was held last January 6, 2025, at the Tent City, Manila Hotel, City of Manila. The ceremony included awarding of the top performing schools in the recently conducted licensure examination. The plaque awarded to UPLB DChE in recognition of this achievement was received by Assoc. Prof. Jerico Z. Alcantara.

In his acceptance speech, Assoc. Prof. Alcantara thanked the PRC and the PRB of Chemical Engineering for the award and shared it with the former students, now chemical engineers of UPLB DChE, together with their parents, families, and friends. He said that the award symbolizes their unwavering efforts and dedication towards achieving their dreams through the never-ending support of their loved ones. He also shared the award with the faculty and staff of UPLB for their collective efforts and dedication to improve the quality of education of the chemical engineering profession. He addressed the newly minted chemical engineers that this is just the start of their professional journey, and that they should continue to equip themselves with knowledge and acquire new skills in the profession for the advancement of the nation. He closed his speech with Dasurv niyo ‘to! (You deserve this!).
