The UP Los Baños (UPLB) Department of Chemical Engineering, through the project leadership of Asst. Prof. Maria Victoria M. Sumagang, has invited Professor Dominic C. Y. Foo from the University of Nottingham Malaysia to conduct a series of seminars on research careers, publication, and carbon footprint reduction. The seminars were held last May 22 to 24, 2024 in two campuses of the University of the Philippines. Dr. Foo’s visit was made possible through funds obtained from the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD). The seminars comply with UPLB’s call for Accelerating Growth through One Research & Extension in Action (AGORA) under the Resilience and Sustainability focus area.

A University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) Department of Chemical Engineering (DChE) graduate garnered First Place (87.30% rating) in the list of successful examinees while UPLB ranked Fifth in the list of Top Performing schools in the May 2024 Chemical Engineering Licensure Examination. As announced by the Philippine Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), UPLB had an overall passing rate of 84.62% (22 passed out of 26 takers).

The UPLB Chemical Engineering Quiz Team bagged 2nd Runner Up in the 45th Inter-University Chemical Engineering Quiz Show (INTER-U), a sub-event of the Students’ National Chemical Engineering Conference (SNCEC) 2023, organized by the UP Chemical Engineering Society Inc., commonly known as UP KEM. This year’s INTER-U was held last January 21, 2024, at the MERALCO Multimedia Lecture Hall, Electrical and Electronics Engineering Building, UP Diliman, Quezon City, and was participated by 10 teams from 6 universities and colleges nationwide. Two teams represented UPLB, dubbed Team A and Team B, during the said event.

Amidst the evolving landscape of the “new normal,” the Department of Chemical Engineering (DChE) at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) convened its first face-to-face testimonial program (post-pandemic) on August 4, 2023 at CEAT Lecture Hall. The department gave recognition to 73 Bachelor of Science (BS) graduates, 4 Master of Science (MS) graduates, and 62 new passers of November 2022 and May 2023 licensure examinations, infusing the gathering with a blend of inspiration and an optimistic outlook towards the future.

Last April 27, 2023, Prof. Monet Detras, UP Scientist I and the Chair of the Department of Chemical Engineering, delivered her lecture as the recipient of the 2022-2023 UPLB Centennial Professorial Chair Award.
